Working with themes is one of the best tips for promoting your salon and February is all about Valentine's PR, says HJi's PR expert
Louise Wood of LWPR.
Don’t wait until 14 February- make love your theme across the month. Here are a couple of ideas to get you going.
Online
How about creating love-heart shapes using your favourite brands in pinks, reds and purples? On the styling front, create Facebook content with a styling theme for example, pretty plaits. Just add the extra touches by framing your Facebook posts for February (or at very least Valentine's Day) with hearts - there are plenty of free apps on your phone to help you do this. Perhaps do a special 'bring someone you love on Valentine's Day' offer and pop Love Heart sweets on the side with coffee instead of a biscuit – these are all things you can talk about in your posts and share on Instagram.
In print
Brainstorm in the salon for your top tips for hair to turn heads. Perhaps a play on the colour of love being red - this is where you talk about favourite red tones you use and celebrity red heads that inspire you. It's about making your theme work for you, very simply but consistently.
In person
When it comes to dropping off your press pack to your local media, pop a little special extra touch in the gift bag (covered with hearts of course) or a single red rose with a heart card and write a personal note to invite them to the salon for a Valentine's blow-dry. Another idea to forge relationships are 'Love is in the hair' hampers for press packed full of hair 'care and love' goodies; think heat protectors, repair and luxury masks tucked in with some cute things like rose petals and chocolates.
In salon
Have clients write what they love about your salon on a heart-shaped post-it notes throughout the month and make an appreciation wall.
PR is all about making your press and your online audience feel the love.
