It’s time to embrace natural texture with effortless elegance with this step by step on how to cut and style a curly bob with Philip Downing for TIGI...
Make a centre profile parting from the forehead to the nape.
Isolate a large fringe area from the top of the head to the low recession area with a crescent-shaped section.
Take a horizontal sub-section. Comb the hair to its natural fall and point-cut slightly rounded to one finger’s depth.
Comb down the remaining fringe and follow the guide.
Take two curved diagonal back sections from the fringe to the top of the occipital bone, and connect them squarely at the back to create an internal rectangular section.
To separate the front from the back, create a sub-section horizontally at the crown.
Part the top section in the middle, take a horizontal section behind the fringe, and elevate to 90°C and point-cut squarely to the head shape, disconnecting from the fringe.
Continue working towards the back, using horizontal sections to create a layering pattern. Repeat on the other side.
Take a vertical section behind the crown, comb and elevate to 90°C to the round of the head and point-cut squarely to the head shape.
Continue working with pivoting sections towards the sides, slightly over-directing each section back to the previous section. Repeat on the other side.
Throughout the interior shape, twist-cut the hair to loosen the texture. Then point-cut to reshape the baseline and perimeter horizontally at a low elevation.
Apply TIGI Catwalk Strong Hold Mousse, blow-dry with a diffuser then blast the roots to loosen the hair, and finish with TIGI Catwalk Session Series Work It Hairspray.
