Barbie was a true icon of the 90s, so it’s only right that she teaches us the perfect way to achieve the 90s blow out. She shared a glossy TikTok tutorial on how she creates her classic bouncy blow dry, which is timely considering the current Barbie trends. So, Educator KEVIN.MURPHY, and Stylist Lily Dews, talk through how to recreate Barbie’s steps, no plastic extensions necessary!
Prep the hair
To achieve the Barbie blow out, make sure to start with clean, fresh, dry hair. You can always add a volumising and rejuvenating spray if needed.
Roll up
Add the rollers from the bottom of the hair, rolling vertically upwards until they reach the scalp around the desired parting. Then, secure with grips or clips.
Hot and cold
Blast the rollers with hot air from a hair dryer and then allow to completely cool. Alternatively, you could use heated rollers and allow them to completely cool once in the hair.
Remove the rollers
Take the rollers out one by one, gently brush out and under using a wide-toothed comb. Then, finish the Barbie blow out with a light spritz of a finishing hairspray with flexible hold.
