Step One: A mould, made out of chicken wire, was placed on the model's head. This was manipulated into the desired shape.

Step Two: Afro-style wigs were placed over the wire and cut into shape. Pieces were attached with pins until the basic style and shape was achieved.

Step Three: To create the hair 'halo' above the solid shape, short pieces of hair extensions were chopped and left to fall randomly onto the floor. It was then separated using fingers into a circular shape, and sprayed with very strong hairspray while still on the floor. Spray was repeated until it became hard.

Step Four: This was then flipped over and sprayed again to reinforce the structure. This sheet of hair cuttings became solid yet pliable when dry.

Step Five: The hair cuttings structure was shaped and moulded over the afro style and attached with pins to create the illusion of floating feathers.

Step Six: The model's body was sprayed with black paint to complete the dramatic monochrome image.
