How to create a stunning hair bow

Classic session look, the bow, was created with a twist by HJ's Avant Garde Hairdresser of the Year 2008 James Rowe.

As a session hairdresser, James used an assistant to help with applying product, holding hair in place during tricky and complicated manoeuvres and to enable speed. It is recommended that you use an assistant to recreate this look.

> >
Before Step One: Hair was prepared with product to boost root movement and make it easier to manipulate.Step Two: Hair was blow dried straight to achieve a smooth hair cuticle.
> >
Step Three: A curved section was taken from ear to ear. Then hair was manipulated into the position of the finished bow using a soft-bristled brush.Step Four: The remaining hair was lifted over the top section to join the top primary section. Hair was then sprayed and blow dried into position.Step Five: A cloth elastic was applied to hold the hair into place.
>>
Step Six: The ponytail was divided into two equal sections.Step Seven: A sectioning clip was used as a guide to the edge of the bow and hair was secured with a cloth elastic.Step Eight: The process was repeated on the opposite side.
>>
Step Nine: The remaining hair on the right side of the ponytail was backcombed to add body and then brushed through.Step Ten: The hair was folded back over itself and secured in place with a cloth elastic.Step Eleven: Excess hair from the first side was smoothed into the second side and secured into place.
>>
Step Twelve: Steps nine and 10 were repeated to form the second half of bow.Step Thirteen: The excess hair was then fed under the bow and up over the top to form the 'knot' and secured with a pin. After: Hair was blow dried upwards to set with loose feel and finished with hairspray.
