How To Achieve Salon Success Without Burnout

Published 04th Apr 2025 by Sian Jones

After launching her first salon at just 22 and scaling it into a thriving business over two decades, Sonia Magnier, Business and Wellness Coach, knows firsthand the toll that running a successful salon business can take. From the outside, she had it all - success, security, and the lifestyle to match. But beneath the surface, she was running on empty. “A thriving business should never come at the cost of your health and happiness,” she shares.

Eventually, Sonia traded burnout for balance, retraining as a yoga teacher and certified life and strategy coach, and now works to help others to achieve salon success without burnout. Her approach to coaching blends strategy with self-awareness, guiding business owners to grow sustainably without sacrificing their wellbeing.

Here are four practical tips Sonia recommends to help you build a salon business that thrives without burning out in the process:

1. Set Boundaries and Manage Your Schedule

It’s easy to overbook yourself during busy periods, but it’s essential to set limits. Block off time for breaks, meals, and rest, if you’re the type of person who needs alone time to recharge, schedule that in. Set realistic daily goals to avoid burnout, and don’t feel pressured to accommodate every request at the cost of your well-being.

2. Practice Stress Management Techniques

Incorporate quick stress-relief activities into your routine such as deep breathing, stretching, or mindfulness exercises. Even five minutes of relaxation can help reset your mind and reduce tension.

3. Learn To Delegate

Don’t try to do everything yourself. Delegate tasks to those around you so you’re not taking everything on solo. Sharing responsibilities can lighten your load and create a supportive environment, when we feel supported it’s easier to relax. ‘A problem shared is a problem solved’ rings true here.

4. Prioritise Self-Care

Make time for self-care whether it’s getting enough sleep, exercising, or unwinding with activities that bring you joy. Establishing a personal routine outside of festive activities will help you recharge and reduce the mental strain from busy periods.
