Hji hearts... wigs
These days, you're nothing if you don't have a selection of change-your-look-in-a-jiffy wigs. From subtle blonde lengths to bright tinsel numbers, they're the latest must-have accessory for style setters.
Gone are the days when a wig was an item just used to cover baldness, in the fast-paced world of celebrity, you can change your look in an instant, without the need for hair extensions.
An unlikely trend took the celebrity world by storm recently with the arrival of pink wigs. Duffy, Lily Allen and even one of the Pet Shop Boys were seen sporting the bright look that adds colour to any outfit!
Cropped celebs like Pixie Geldof have also used wigs to give instant length for a big occasion and even Madonna went straight and brunette in a smart wig for a recent fancy dress party.
Veteran actresses Joan Collins and Barbara Windsor have been wearing them for years and although Lady Gaga denies it, we all know that she sports a fabulous blonde wig that finishes off her extreme stage outfits perfectly.
Designer Jean-Paul Gaultier showcased afro wigs at Paris Fashion Week and snipper Charlie Le Mindu's recent show at LFW took wigs to the extreme with his giant, voodoo-inspired super-wigs, placing wigs firmly on the fashion map.
There is a serious side to this wig-out trend. The more people who start wearing wigs, the less of a stigma is attached to those who have to wear them due to illness or hair loss.
Wig cutting courses are growing in popularity and there is definitely a market for client who want to reinvent their look. With cheaper, crazy colour wigs as well as natural-looking, real hair styles, there is something for every look and budget.
Wigs might even overtake shoe collections in a girl's wardrobe, unlikely but they're certainly the must-have accessory of the moment.
