Hji hearts . . . patrick wolf's daring 'dos

Boys often play it safe with boring barnets and it can take a brave or eccentric character to pull off something a bit more interesting.

That's why we love Patrick Wolf. Not only is he experimental with his folktronica dance meets classical music, he loves to break the rules when it comes to his hair.

Currently sporting a bleached blonde 'do that is shaved to the sides, revealing his natural brunette colour underneath; Patrick's has previously carried off everything from Dickensian urchin on his album Lycanthropy, minimalist masterpiece on Wind in the Wires to circus cowboy on his last album, The Magic Position.

He

even went for a 1940's gent style for his single, 'The Libertine'.

We last saw Patrick hitting the bleach bottle on his first album, but this time he's gone for a harder and edgier style that harks back to the 80's.

He might not be everyone's cup of tea but Patrick can pull off pretty much any look and make it look chic, be it a red bowl cut, an asymmetric fringe or a sensible side-parting.

Loved by the fashion elite and music lovers alike - Gareth Pugh and Mark Ronson are among his fans. Let's hope that a few boys follow Patrick's lead, ditch their comfort blanket hairstyles and push the boundaries a bit more in 2009.
