Before the presentation of the evening's ultimate accolade, the nominees for HJ's 2011 British Hairdresser of the Year each had the opportunity to show off their skills with a series of stunning model showcases.
In keeping with the theme of the evening, each of the eight nominees presented models inspired by the title, The One.
Showcasing the very best of British hairdressing, each spectacular showcase was a masterclass in cut, colour and styling - with makeup, outfits and choreography to match.
Andrew Barton, Andrew Barton Salons
Andrew Barton opened the British Nominees' Show with a riot of gold and glitter, with a swaggering model strutting her stuff Elvis-style.
Hair was styled into an enormous crimped quiff, coated with gold glitter particles for a shimmering finish. See more of Andrew's model here.

Errol Douglas, Errol Douglas Salon
Errol Douglas presented a pale and interesting duo, with intricate styles created in tonal shades of cream and white.
The show was all about texture, with wispy crimped flyaways and pom-poms of hair artfully arranged for a home-spun feel. See more of Errol's models here.

Tim Hartley
Tim Hartley's show had a monochromatic feel, with blonde models peeping out of black funnel-neck jackets.
Short and sharp was the message, with clean lines and architectural curves mirrored in the graphic eyeliner and structural styling. See more of Tim's models here.

Mark Hayes, Sassoon
A clean, creamy precision bob showed off the masterful lines that the Sassoon name has come to stand for.
Perspex glasses and a silver shimmering gown added to the feel of a retro vision of the future, complete with false lashes and space-age makeup. See more of Mark's models here.

Gary Hooker and Michael Young, Hooker & Young
Tribalism met futurism for a presentation full of contrasts from Gary Hooker and Michael Young.
A super-sleek neat black bob with a lick of colour contrasted sharply against a textural blonde updo, with outfits that echoed the contrasting hair finishes. See more of Gary and Michael's models here.

Akin Konizi, HOB Salons
Luxurious colour and precision cutting showed off Akin's skills with a duo of models in Gucci-inspired jewel-tone gowns.
A sharp head-hugging bob in glossy brunette was contrasted with a soft, creamy pink bob styled with a whisper of texture. See more of Akin's models here.

Mark Leeson, Mark Leeson Hair Body & Mind
Mark Leeson celebrated texture with two dramatically towering updos in a striking monochrome palette.
Plaits of varying sizes contrasted against fluffy texture in updos inspired by classic heritage hairdressing techniques, with an all-important modern textural twist. See more of Mark's models here.

Famous for his unique technical colour application, Angelo Seminara's models sported graphic blocks of colour in a palette of autumnal shades.
Straight, smooth lengths showed off the colour application to its best, while twists of hair on either side of the forehead added a quirky finish. See more of Angelo's models here.
