Hairstyle hits and horrors at the bafta television awards

When it comes to hairstyles, celebrities are just like your average clients - sometimes they get it right and sometimes they get it oh so wrong - and this year's Bafta Television Awards were no different with the standard mix of good hair, bad hair and did they even do their hair? styles.

We asked long hair and hair colour expert Anne Veck of Anne Veck Salons to cast her eye over some of the celebrity hair dos (and hair don'ts!) on the stage at this year's Baftas.

Sophie Rawath

Sophie's hair is all very 'wash and go'. Her hair has been left in its natural texture with minimal styling.

Working with natural texture is very in for summer however Sophie's take on it is more 'no effort' than 'effortless'!

For an awards ceremony, I think Sophie could have done with adding a few Velcro rollers around the crown area for more lift and body; then she'd have glam hair in an instant.

James Cracknell

I'm not sure whether James's choice of style is deliberate or simply a case of forgetting to comb before leaving the house!

His hair looks very fluffy as though it's freshly washed and it is in dire need of some products to tame those wild curls!

I would recommend a paste. It will give him some much needed definition.

Amanda Holden

Amanda has always been known as a try hard; trying too hard with her dresses and most importantly, her hairstyles.

Here she has her tresses in a side parting whereby one side is flicked out and the fringe area has been tonged backwards.

Nothing too wrong, however, it's evident there's been an overload of styling products to hold her hair in place, which unfortunately has left her hair looking hard and a bit crispy.

Amanda's hair colour used to be a beautiful golden blonde, but here it is bleached a few shades too light which washes her out. Peroxide is quite ageing and should be left for the young ones - unless your name is Kate Moss!

Ashley Jensen

Wow! Ashley has brought Hollywood red carpet glamour to London! LA women's strive for glossy perfection has definitely rubbed off on Ashley.

I like how her hair and dress complement each other: the one shoulder dress is showed off with by her long silky blonde mane that has been smoothed sleek with a straightener and pinned over to one shoulder.

Sections of the actress's layers had been styled, and straightened with a flat iron. Her side swept fringe softens her rounded features and slims her face

Laurie Brett and Barbara Windsor 

Laurie looks great and she knows it!  Her hairstyle is divine, pinned up loosely with a few looses tendril left out to frame the face.

Her icy blonde tones suit her porcelain complexion without draining the colour away.

Barbara, on the other hand, has a few issues! Firstly her wig is too high, too wide, too blonde and too theatrical.

She looks great for her age, but Barbara's hairstyle is anything but normal. I know she's not going to do anything by halves, but a classic beehive didn't hurt anyone! 

Charlie McDonnell

Charlie is young and can get away with nearly anything, but although carrot red will be hot for Autumn, I'm not convinced it applies to Charlie!

It's great that he wants to experiment and try out different looks, though, and his textured medium layers make a change from the short sides and quiff everyone is sporting at the moment.

Emilia Fox

Emilia's made the most effort with her hair for the Baftas by going for a vintage-inspired 50's updo.

This regal hairstyle oozes decadence and instantly draws attention away from her dull attire.

The section rolled at the front of the head is big this season and has been spotted on the  Marc Jacobs runway, which he aptly named 'the wave', a reference to the way the hair is sculpted. Emilia has controversially gone for a grown up look; most women would avoid at all costs for fear of looking older but Emilia has got away with it!
