Hairdressing masters at work at the fellowship masterclass

Fellowship-Masterclass.jpgEleven hairdressing 'masters' put on an inspiring display of world class hairdressing at the latest Fellowship for British Hairdressing Masterclass, at the Holiday Inn Regents Park.

The two hairdressing segments - a stunning showcase of short hair and a creative exhibition of long hair and updos - were separated by a motivational interview with Daniel Galvin OBE.

The colour maestro shared tales of the Galvin hairdressing dynasty; from his grandfather, who cut hair in a top hat and gloves, down to the next generation, his children.

With the audience hanging onto his every word, Daniel told stories of inventing crazy colour, helping to launch Twiggy, his film credits and the reason he stopped colouring Nicole Kidman's hair - because he didn't think she suited blonde!

Finally he shared some advice for would-be colourists in the audience: "All you need is motivation and dedication," he said. "I used to think you had to have a natural flair for colour, but now I think it is all down to hard work."

The in-depth interview perfectly complemented the rest of the masterclass, in which the stunning hair really did the talking:

Section One:

As guests wandered around the master's platforms, they were treated to a demonstration of short, but soft and sexy hair by Akin Konizi of HOB Salons, Debbie G, Angelo Vallilo of Zullo and Holland, Bruce Masefield of Sassoon and Jamie Stevens of Errol Douglas Salon.

Akin Konizi

With an asymmetric line through the back of the head, Akin kept length through the fringe for a more feminine finish.

Debbie G

While the other stylists showcased short, straight hair, Debbie dressed pin curls to show that texture is still big news this season.

Angelo Vallilo

The stunning pearly blonde beautifully complemented Angelo's personalised bob shape.

Bruce Masefield

Bruce showcased creations from Sassoon's Hot Rod collection that saw hair cut tighter at the back and jaw-length at the front with short textured fringes.

Jamie Stevens,

Jamie created head-hugging shapes with length left on top. He styled the longer hair in either direction for a soft and versatile finish.

Section Two:

With guests already buzzing from Daniel Galvin's words of encouragement they were treated to a celebration of the possibilities of long hair.

The looks, which covered the spectrum of genres of long hair, were created by Leonardo Rizzo of Sanrizz, Ken Picton, Clipso's Emilie Pearson-Brown, Errol Douglas MBE, Tallulah of Daniel Galvin and Anita Cox of Cox McMillan.

Leonardo Rizzo

In a bid to steer clear of the 'bridal looks' he associates with long hair, Leonardo worked with dramatic texture and playful blue and yellow shades for a fun avant-garde look.

Ken Picton

Ken's long blonde curls were soft, touchable and beautiful by anyone's standards. He also created a stylish box bob.

Talullah

Who says young stylists don't know how to do the classic techniques? Talullah worked with pin curls to create an intricate up-do worthy of any top hairdresser.

Anita Cox

With the catwalk as her inspiration, Anita created a perfectly finished, yet slightly quirky, voluminous up-do.

Errol Douglas

Forget crimping, Errol micro-embosses hair to create the texture to work with. He then used coils of hair and coiled hair pieces for a show-stealing avant-garde creation.

Emily Pearson-Brown

African-inspired catwalk trends saw Emily plait cloth into hair with impressive results.
