MASCOLO-Fourbrothers1.jpgThe hairdressing industry has come out in force to remember Guy Mascolo who has died suddenly of a heart attack.

Guy, pictured with his brothers Anthony, Toni and Bruno, passed away in his home in Dallas on May 6th.

As co-founder of the TONI&GUY brand Guy has helped to shape hairdressing, both in the UK and overseas and will be sorely missed.

"Guy wasn't just a great brother, he was also, a wonderful friend. He was the most caring and giving person you could hope to meet and an absolutely fantastic dad. In the early days, when we first opened in Mayfair, Guy was the one would do endless clients all day long in the salon, whilst Bruno and I were off doing photo shoots. The clients loved him, he always had a wonderful way with people and he was a really good hairdresser too.

But he was also full of life and extremely talented. He loved football, both playing and watching it, he was also a brilliant cook and he was also a really good guitarist. He was a very good artist too. He was particularly good at portraits and he used to sell his paintings to raise money for various charities. Guy always retained a real closeness to Italy and still had a home in Pompeii where he went regularly to meet up with the family.

As well as working with him, I have spent many wonderful holidays with Guy, Flora and their children and the memories I have of him will remain with me. I am absolutely devastated and will miss him dreadfully."

Anthony Mascolo

"I have never met a hairdresser in my life who got so much joy from what he did. Spending time with him was a privilege - when we started the business we could never imagine how succesful it would become. He was extremely creative and worked incredibly hard to make Toni & Guy what it is today. Family has always been important and that is how we wanted the company to be. I have so many wonderful memories. In 1964 on Christmas Eve, Guy saw 60 clients in one day as he wanted to make sure everyone felt and looked good for the festive season. That is how I will remember him -- he was kind and had a heart of gold." Toni Mascolo

"I spent six months of my career at TONI&GUY when Guy was working at the Davies Street salon. He was a great hairdresser and he'll be a sad loss to the industry. Guy was instrumental in the success of the TONI&GUY empire."

Trevor Sorbie

What sad news - the extraordinary Mascolo family will be devastated. I remember the first time I saw Guy he was with his wonderful brothers demonstrating at a show in Edinburgh, in their early days of becoming the dynamic force they are today. I remember Guy's quiet strong presence on stage; it was his precision of technique that shone through. As each of the Mascolo brothers' contribution has been vital to their success, Guy will be greatly missed. His soul goes marching on.

Charlie Miller

I am so sorry to hear this sad news and I offer my sincere condolences to Anthony, Toni and all the other members of the family. The Mascolo family has contributed greatly to the industry worldwide and this loss only emphasizes just how important the Toni & Guy name has become since the early 1970's.

Alan Hemmings

My sympathy goes to the Mascolo family at such a sad time. During my time working with the Mascolo family, Guy was a guiding light and an inspiration to everyone he came in touch with! Guy and his brothers revolutionised the hairdressing industry and helped shape the careers of so many.

Andrew Barton

"I am sure that I am not the only one to lead the way to pay tribute. Guy was extremely special and touched countless lives, a true giver and a great family man.  He will truly be missed worldwide."

Tony Rizzo

"I met Guy along with his brothers in the first year of starting my business. A few years later we went to Dallas to do a show after Guy and brother Bruno moved to America and opened their first Toni and Guy salon in Dallas. They were so helpful to us by getting us models and letting us use their salon to prep the hair. Guy and his brothers Anthony, Bruno and Toni are such a huge inspiration and have together made a massive impact on our industry. How tragic and sad of the sudden loss of Guy - my heartfelt thoughts go to his family and his brothers." Jennifer Cheyne, Cheynes, Edinburgh

"When their mother died, Guy was the one who looked after his younger brothers and was the best looking brother who the clients adored! Guy had this big heart, a giver, and that relates to all the Mascolos; a very close, caring and delightful family. Heartfelt feelings to them all." Ronnnie and Vidal Sassoon

"It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of a very dear friend and industry legend. We have shared some very special times together with Guy, Flora and the Mascolo family over the past 30 years, it is hard to imagine that such a talented, loving, gentle soul has left us. He will be missed very very much. Our hearts and love are with the wonderful family he has left behind." Robert and Kay Lobetta

"I first met Guy when I was 18 years old. I spent a lot of time with them and Guy was always laid back, very easy going and very supportinve of all his brothers. he was just a nice guy and a sweetheart. I last saw him a few years ago and he never changed, he was just as sweet as he was back then. he was always one of the team and would always muck in." Beverly C

"Guy was a truly kind human being. A genuine, happy man that had time for everyone even in the most difficult times. He was the backbone of his family and contributed so much to the Mascolo legacy. He was blessed with the ability to see the best in everybody and never judged you by your mistakes. He was always there to guide you and taught you with respect and care. He had a soul that never changed with time." Anestis Cobella, Cobella, Kensington, London

"I have personally known Guy Mascolo since 1975, he was an absolute gentleman. He and his brothers changed the whole concept of hair styles that influenced the international world of hairdressing. Despite all his incredible success, he remained the same person I met all those years ago." Joshua Galvin

"Guy Mascolo was a great inspiration to Stell, myself and the Rush Team.  Passionate and driven, a fantastic ambassador and industry visionary, Guy was instrumental in taking British hairdressing forward, he will be sadly missed. Our condolences to the Mascolo family." Andy Phouli, Rush London
