Hairdressers from across the UK gathered at Brixton Academy to not only see great shows by two outstanding artistic teams, but to find out who were winners in the Redken NYC Hair Awards.
The day started with finalists in three categories - Runway to Reality, Men's Runway Style and Color Runway - presenting their model in front of a prestigious panel of judges.
Carolyn Newman from Charles Worthington, Chris Williams from Rush Hair, Emma Bergman education manager for Redken UK and Ireland, celebrity hairdresser Lee Stafford and HJ's editor Ruth Hunsley talked to the entrants about their inspirations, moodboards and cut and colour techniques before the panel chose a winner in each of the categories.

That evening the winners were announced at Redken Tribe 2012, which saw the famous Brixton Academy transformed from music venue to award space with a buzzing atmosphere and hundreds of hairdressers from across the UK gathering to see the inspirational shows.

The Redken Artistic team presented avant garde hat-shaped styles inspired by the Marc Jacobs Autumn/Winter 2012 show in a colourful and daring presentation, while the Chapel artistic team wowed the crowd with neon colours and textures.
Once the crowed had been wowed by some inspiring shows, it was time for the eagerly-anticipated awards to be handed out.
And the winners were...
Runway to Reality: Andrew Barton Salons
Men's Runway Style: Haringtons
Color Runway: Origin Hair Design.
With the winners announced it was time to celebrate, with acrobats flying high above the crowd transfixing them with daredevil moves as the partying carrying on until the early hours.
