The 2013 ELLE Style Awards saw London's top fashion faces out in force - with international guests also picking up plaudits for their style.

Updos reigned supreme at the awards, but this being a fashion-forward event there were no play-it-safe looks here - just all-out, on-trend glamour.

We asked Neil Barton, whose eponymous salon is in Edinburgh, for his verdict on our favourite red-carpet looks.

"Chloe Moretz's retro 1960s look complements her monochrome dress perfectly. The sleek sweeping fringe contrasts to the textured beehive which creates height and drama to the look. Backcomb the hair on the crown to create this beehive effect and finish with hair spray to set."

Daisy Lowe small.jpg
"Braids are big news at the moment and Daisy Lowe gets it just right here. The hair at the front section has been parted to frame her face and the rest of the hair has been brushed back and plaited. To finish, the hair has been teased slightly to create a more dishevelled finish which gives it a less preppy, more rock 'n' roll feel to suit her personality perfectly."

Kate Hudson small.jpg
"Kate Hudson's hair has been pinned back to draw attention to her statement earrings and bold coloured dress. If she had gone for a more intricate hairstyle the whole look could have looked too much, so she has toned the hair right down. She has a subtle side parting and wave texture to add just enough interest though.

Suki Waterhouse small.jpg
"Suki Waterhouse's hair has been curled with rollers and the top section has been backcombed a little and pinned back to create a half up, half down look. The curls have then been tousled whilst the fringe has been kept straight for a contrast. The fringe itself has an uneven finish for a grungy edge."
