Hair council student of the year 2015: winners announced!

The two talented winners of the Hair Council Student of the Year competition, in association with L’Oreal Professionnel and VTCT, have been announced after a round of judging by Andrew Barton, Jamie Stevens and Patrick Cameron. Hairdressing students from across the country submitted photos of their work, with Level 2 students tasked with creating a red-carpet look and Level 3 following the brief of a cut and blow-dry. Finalists were then invited to the L'Oreal academy in London to recreate their look in just 50 minutes, before interviews with a panel of experts about not just their work, but the work of the Hair Council. The winners will now go on to spend a day with Andrew Barton as Urban Retreat in Harrods, enjoy an afternoon tea with the Hair Council at the House of Commons and a Wella course of their choice. And the winners were... Level 2 Rebecca Mardon, JET Hairdressing "The feeling of winning was amazing; when they said my name I honestly couldn’t believe it was me. The standard at the competition was so high it was unbelievable. I was speechless when I was announced; I just wanted to cry I was so happy!" Level 3 Demi Stainton, Grimsby Institute "The talent during the day of the finals was so incredible. I was so happy to be a finalist and then shocked to be the winner! I was extremely emotional and collecting my award is a blur. I feel very honoured to have won such a prestigious award. Hair is my passion and I love what the Hair Council stands for - I hope one day it will be mandatory for every UK hairdresser to be state registered."
