The Hair & Beauty Charity has seen a sudden increase in requests for support with the coronavirus pandemic forcing thousands of companies in the hair and beauty industry to stop operations for three months, which has led to
financial difficulties for many.
Established in 1853, the organisation has made it their mission to support industry professionals. The charity offers help to those affected by illness, disability, bereavement or financial hardship. The charity relies on the support of the industry to be able to give back to those in need. Each year the charity receives more than 300 applicants. Over the past three months the charity has seen a 78% increase in requests. President
Samantha Grocutt reflected on previous figures. "This time last year we were helping 94 beneficiaries but we're now helping 167 beneficiaries which is a huge increase for a small charity"

The charity itself suffered, cancelling important events and fundraisers. Despite this, the Hair & Beauty Charity has been able to increase its support to professionals through its
Relief Fund which has raised £30,000 during the pandemic. This contribution allowed the charity to give over £60,000 to beneficiaries during the crisis. Sam said: "We've helped a huge amount of people over the past three months, but we aren't over the crisis and the need for urgent financial help yet".
It was expected the Hair & Beauty charity would receive calls for short-term help. However, there is now a need for extended support as some businesses remain in limbo. Samantha continued, saying "It's a very worrying time. It's been wonderful to see the support the charity is getting from the industry and we've been grateful to companies and people who have donated to our
Relief Fund so far but the crisis is still happening and we will continue to help our industry as we have for over 150 years".
