Great lengths takes to the stage
Great Lengths pulled out all the stops for an extensions extravaganza at London's Riverside Studios. The One Show's hairdressing guru, Michael Douglas, took to the stage with infectious enthusiasm.
Michael introduced stylists from Cutting Room Creative, Leeds, to the audience of stylists, wholesalers and salon owners. The first half of the evening was dedicated to the 'Classic Look' - interpretations of classic styles created by Great Lengths.
After models had wowed the audience with old-fashioned glamour curls and cream lace dresses, the team took on the task of transforming four girls into classic glamour pusses in front of the audience.
The Cutting Room Creative team chatted about application techniques, styles and profits that can be made from introducing extensions into the salon. "We were a bit cynical at first but since introducing extensions to the salon, we've seen profits rise and, because we are all fully trained, we haven't had an unhappy client return to the salon yet," said Charles.
Karen Dodds, Cutting Room Creative, pointed out other reasons to introduce extensions to a salon. "Instead of having expensive highlights, clients can add a bit of colour with extensions, it's also great for brides-to-be who want extra length for added femininity on their big day," she said.
Different application techniques were used on each girl including the fast fusion, cold fusion and the dual machine. With a bit of preparation before the show, The Cutting Room Creative team gave the girls big and beautiful hair within the hour. The styles included a side-slicked, russet red, volumous style, side-swept brunette lengths, a pretty curly updo and cascading blonde, long lengths.
The girls departed and Miss England entered the stage in a sparkly, show-stopping dress. She was styled by Michael Douglas who spoke about the creativity of the public and how salons should take advantage of this. "I often see girls in Topshop or going out in town with big, backcombed hair worn in extreme styles, salons should embrace these trends and suggest them to creative customers," says Michael. True to his word, Michael gave Miss England huge, backcombed hair and then transformed it into a high quiff with a side ponytail to the back.
The second half of the evening exploded with male freestyle street dancers back-flipping across the stage and pvc-clad female dancers. Cutting Room Creative returned to create 'Tomorrow's Look'- interpretations of directional styles from Great Lengths. Styles included a black, crimped bob with electric blue streaks, a thick blonde bob with a heavy blunt fringe and an asymmetric blonde 'do.
The evening was a roaring success and left many wondering if introducing extensions into the salon could benefit the business. The Cutting Room Creative team worked hard to create stunning styles and Michael Douglas kept everyone smiling throughout proceedings.
