The Freelance Hairdressers Association has launched, following the liquidation of the Freelance Hair and Beauty Federation. On Monday 10 March 2014, Freelance Hair and Beauty Federation founder Sheila Abrahams was made aware of some administrative irregularities within the FHBF, which have subsequently been reported to the police. The company is now in liquidation and details surrounding this are part of an ongoing investigation. As such she is unable to comment further on the matter. In response to these developments, the Freelance Hairdressers Association (FHA) has been formed to ensure that professional freelance operators will continue to have representation within the industry. The FHA will maintain standards within the industry, promote training and personal development and provide help and support for members in both hairdressing and beauty. The FHA has already received overwhelming support from the likes of Wella, Indola, L’Oreal Professional and VCTC – all of which have all given their full backing to the new venture. Many wholesale companies, including Salon Supplies, Capital, Rand Rocket amd Aston & Fincher have also welcomed the formation of the FHA along with an increasing number of other companies within the industry. Patrick Cameron and Tim Hartley are ambassadors of the FHA and will be involved as headline guest artists at the launch event in June. Sheila commented:
Professional freelance operators have been recognised for their contribution and value within the industry as a result of having an organisation representing their interests and the need for such an association remains as strong as ever. I had a unique relationship with the members of the FHBF, many of whom became personal friends. They will not lose everything that we have achieved together over the last 21years provided they stick together and support the FHA wholeheartedly. I believe that the freelance sector will be stronger lead by the FHA and that this is an exciting time for the self-employed, freelance sector."
Full details of the FHA and how to become a member will become available soon. For more information and to register your interest, email [email protected] The FHA website (www.thefha.org.uk) will be launching shortly and you can also follow them on Twitter at @thefha_uk
