Fellowship scholarship winner Jasmine Connor has enjoyed a four-week Sassoon Academy masterclass, after being picked by a panel - including HJ - to take the prize.
Each year, the Fellowship for British Hairdressing awards the scholarship to a deserving hairdresser of any age and level of experience who wants to further their learning. The prize for one lucky person is a month-long professional course at the Sassoon Academy (donated in memory of Vidal Sassoon), a tool kit courtesy of Denman Brushes and travel courtesy of sponsors including HJ.
On the judging panel this year were industry experts including Fellowship chancellor, Karine Jackson, HJ publishing director Jayne Lewis Orr, Edward Darley from Sassoon, super-PR Jacki Wadeson and hairdressing icon Ann Herman.
Jasmine Connor, from Q Hair and Beauty in Chichester, was chosen because of sparkling personality, passion for the industry and willingness to research hairdressing inside out.
Although only 20 and at NVQ level 2, Jasmine has already demonstrated her love of the industry; while still at school she went to Cutting Club to learn the basics (a salon initiative to encourage local schoolchildren), she's also part of the Fellowship Colour Project, has undertaken various courses and was shortlisted for Junior of the Year at
HJ's British Hairdressing Business Awards.
Anthony Barnes-Smith, owner of Q Hair and Beauty said of Jasmine’s work ethic: "Jasmine is always willing to be involved, she has a desire to master any challenge. The education she has received so far has been shared with the rest of the team. Young stylists like her don’t come along very often; it’s not just work to her, it’s a hobby – she eats, sleeps and drinks it!"
