Dom Capel is co-owner of the two Lara Johnson Lifestyle salons in South Wales where he acts as fashion and editorial ambassador.

Last season Dom worked on the BaByliss Pro team at House of Holland, and he will also be heading up the Sebastian Professional team for Jayne Pierson.

What are the five key items/products in your kit you couldn't survive without?

  • BaByliss PRO Ceramic Crimpers - they're fantastic to use both for styling and to create volume and foundation for dressing.
  • BaByliss PrRO Volare V2 dryer. It's small and light but has plenty of power.
  • My ripple pins. They're strong and have good grip - enough to hold any dressed style.
  • Sebastian Shaper Fierce, which is the perfect strong-hold spray.
  • Sebastian Potion 9. It's an extremely versatile styling spray that keeps the hair looking natural.

What trends are you predicting for A/W 2012?

This season is all about soft textures. Gentle backcombing and soft movement gripped up or in a ponytail  - this look works so well with all the fur collars and hoods.

What was your favourite show last season?

My favourite show was fJayne Pierson. Jayne collaborated with the knitware designer Derek Lawlor and the result was a fantastic collection of textures and shapes. The models used at the show were all dancers from the Royal Ballet and the show managed to entertain as well as showcase the looks.

What's your favourite trend for S/S 2012??

I loved some of the sleek, no-mess, minimalist styles - I really like the simplicity of a sleek ponytail. My favourite hair was the shape seen at Rochas, which was totally beautiful.

Three top tips for getting involved with session work?

  • Assist as much as you can
  • Practice practice practice. Develop your own techniques to create your own textures and styles
  • Trust your instinct. If you have an idea go with your gut feeling.

Top London Fashion Week post-show hangout?

The pub closest to the show! I'm usually too worn out to make the parties but I tend to meet up with my team and friends in either the Princess Louise in Holborn or in the Queen of Hoxton - which has a great wigwam on the roof. Both great places to kick your feet back and discuss dropped curls, frizzy ends and tong burns on the ends of your fingers.
