Creating a colour menu brings colour to life for clients and is the ideal for promoting your salon services and specials.

Here, Christel Lundqvist talks about creating the perfect menu to excite and inspire your clients about colour.

Christel is the current Schwarzkopf Professional British Colour Technician of the Year at HJ's British Hairdressing Awards and the creative colour director at the HOB Salons group.

"A colour menu is an essential tool when promoting colour services and advising clients on the current seasonal colour trends. The idea behind this concept is to promote colour services that are relevant to your clientele, build colour and brand awareness, and increase revenue from your colour business.

The colour menu should be based on fashion trends, which is then tailored to suit your clientele. The colour menu should include suitable visuals and detailed explanations of the technical service. Celebrities are a great tool to encourage and motivate colour services, as many clients want to emulate their idols.

Seasonally update the colour menu, to ensure it remains progressive, on-trend and reflective of the latest techniques and shades in the world of hair colour. This will help highlight you as a colour expert, and encourage a following among your clientele.

"A possible suggestion is to present the menu to your client in the form of show card stands on each colourist's station as well as the reception area. This could also be supported with a booklet for clients to read before or during the consultation."

Three top tips when creating a colour menu

1. Research colour trends and celebrity styles.

2. Include descriptive wording about the colour palette and show celebrity references.

3. Use your own imagery if possible as this is a great way to promote your own techniques and support your brand.
