Create a classic box bob - step-by-step
Few looks withstand the test of time like the classic bob. Heath Grout demonstrates how you can give the old favourite a modern feel.
Step One: Take a centre profile parting from the forehead to the nape and then two slight diagonal forward sections from the bottom of the occipital bone to the bottom of the ears.
Step Two: Tilt the head slightly forward to eliminate excess graduation. Starting at the centre, comb the hair to its natural fall and blunt-cut parallel to the parting. Continue towards the sides using the same technique.
Step Three: Take two slight diagonal forward sections from the occipital bone to the middle of the ears. Work from side to side repeating the same technique. Keep the zero-degree elevation by tapping the hair gently down close to the scalp.
Step Four: Take a horseshoe section from the crest to the occipital bone to the low point of the recession. Above the occipital bone with the head upright, follow the guide as before.
Step Five: Continue to cut in front of the ear to complete the shape, using minimum tension to allow for the protrusion of the ear.
Step Six: Repeat the same technique on the other side, then cross-check the balance.
Step Seven: Take the next horseshoe section from just below the crown to the mid-point of the recession area. Repeat the technique following the guide.
Step Eight: Comb down the remaining hair to its natural fall and complete the shape by working to the same format as before.
Step Nine: Take a wide triangular section for the fringe.
Step Ten: Comb the hair to its natural fall and reshape by blunt-cutting a slightly rounded fringe.
Step Eleven: Blow-dry and smooth the hair using a small paddle brush.
Step Twelve: Clean any excess graduation freehand along the line.
