Covid-19 guidance update for salons and barbers

As restrictions have been lifted, The Hair and Barber Council have offered guidance and are encouraging salons and barbershops to remain cautious in order to protect staff and clients. Salons and barbershops are being urged to practice key behaviours to further protect them and help reduce the spread of Covid-19. The Hair and Barber Council recommend some priority actions to combat Covid-19.

Review your business’s risk assessment

Ensure that Covid-19 is covered in the risk assessment, whilst considering the adjustments needed for staff and customers for disabilities. Share this with all of your staff and keep it updated.

Provide ventilation where possible to help blow away Covid-19 particles

Adequate ventilation lets fresh air into your workplace, which helps manage the risk of Covid-19.

Clean regularly

Particularly clean surfaces that people frequently touch more regularly. Asking your customers and staff to use sanitiser and clean their hands regularly is also a good idea.

Follow isolation guidelines

You must let staff self-isolate when they are legally required to, having being contacted by NHS Track and Trace. If a worker is self-isolating, you must not allow them to come to work, it is an offence to do this.

Communicate and train

Keep all your workers, contractors and visitors up-to-date on how you’re using and updating safety measures. In addition to priority actions, salons can also encourage the use of face masks and can consider putting in place distancing measures to reduce contact between people.
