Cloud nine partners with child accident prevention trust Cloud Nine Partners with Child Accident Prevention Trust Cloud Nine hair tools have partnered with the Child Accident Prevention Trust to become the first company in the UK to supply heat-proof pouches as standard. Hair straighteners can reach twice the boiling point of water and cause devastating burns to babies and children. A recent report by the Electrical Safety Council revealed that the number of hair straightener burns among children has doubled in recent years and now account for nearly 1 in ten burns. Despite these shocking statistics - and the ESC's recommendation that heat-proof pouches should always be used - most retailers do not sell pouches alongside hot tools. Responding to these concerns, Cloud Nine has announced that all of their tools will now come with a complimentary heat-proof pouch as standard. Anyone who already owns straighteners is also being offered a pouch in return for a £2 donation to the Child Accident Prevention Trust. As well as providing the pouches, Cloud Nine is also promoting hair straightener safety with the message of Turn Off, Wrap Up, Put Away. Katrina Phillips, chief executive of the Child Accident Prevention Trust says:
Crawling babies and toddlers can be scarred for life by hair straighteners. Parents simply don't know that their straighteners get as hot as an iron or that their baby's skin is 15 times thinner than an adult's. Even once parents understand the risks, the lack of pouches for straighteners means it's been hard to do the right thing. That's why this initiative is a game-changer. For the first time it means a high quality heat-proof safety pouch for hair straighteners are available to everyone.
Cloud Nine founder Robert Powls explains that the partnership is a bid to make the use of heat-proof safety pouches for styling products as routine as the use of seat belts in cars. He adds:
We are proud to be working in partnership with CAPT and as a company we take safety very seriously. Through this campaign we hope to raise general awareness, help to minimise the risks for young children and make Cloud Nine's heat-proof pouches available to everyone while raising funds for a good cause.
