Two stylists from London Salon Brooks & Brooks discuss how long-standing client relationships have shaped their careers
For many hair professionals, the salon chair becomes much more than a place for work – it’s where milestones are shared, confidence is rebuilt and lasting connections are formed. For International Women's Day (Sunday 8th March) Brooks & Brooks, stylists Kayleigh Twigg and Janice Harrison reflect on the meaningful bonds they’ve built with loyal clients who have returned to them for years.
Kayleigh Twigg first met her client Terri LeMare 13 years ago…
“Client relationships are so precious to me. Having their trust and friendship over the years allows me to look after them the best I can and really give them what they want. Seeing them happy when they leave me is the best feeling. When they trust you, it really breaks down the barrier to be able to make them happy.
“My relationship with Terri is really special. We’ve known each other for 13 years and know the ins and outs of each other’s lives. She completely trusts me with her hair and knows I’ll always give her an honest opinion. I now look after other members of the family, which is lovely – I see them all together and then they have a nice day in London with great hair!”
Terri LeMare shared…
“I was recommended to Kayleigh by a friend and haven’t stopped seeing her for my hair since. I have it coloured and cut and now my mum, daughter and granddaughter come to her too! My first visit was a bit overwhelming coming into the heart of the capital, but I Iove the fact it is in Central London – the size of the shop is amazing and the staff are so welcoming.
"The condition of my hair has changed immensely due to Kayleigh’s advice and the correct products she recommends. Whatever Kayleigh recommends to keep my hair healthy, I will invest in – I totally trust her. She’s very knowledgeable; our relationship is built totally on trust and over time we have become great friends.”
Janice Harrison first met her client Kerry Tinsley 10 years ago…
“All my clients are precious to me – they are more than just clients. Some I’ve developed real friendships with and we’ve been on a journey together; we have grown up together and I love how loyal and thoughtful they have always been. My newer clients are just as important, as I feel special that they have chosen me and look forward to building the same relationships with them. You get to know your clients: their behaviours and their moods, when to speak to them, and when to be sympathetic or joyful. It’s all about making them feel amazing and I love that they can be having a bad day and coming to see me turns that day around.
“I first met Kerry when her daughter was in pre-school; now her daughter is in her teenage years, and they’re both clients of mine. When I see Kerry has booked an appointment I know I’m going to have a great day – we share stories and ideas and it’s because of clients like Kerry that I love getting up in the morning and coming to work.”
Kerry Tinsely Shared…
“I have naturally curly hair so I was originally looking to have it chemically straightened. It’s a service I couldn’t find local to me, so I had to venture to London to have it done and that’s when I first met Kerry. Instantly I knew I had found someone special – she listened to what I wanted and we had a lot in common as we’re a similar age. I visit the salon regularly and because of the product recommendations Janice gives me, my hair is in great condition.
“My relationship with Janice is really special to me, I feel like we’ve built a brilliant friendship over the past decade. I look forward to seeing her as much as I look forward to having my hair done! We share a lot of personal similarities, so she gives me great advice and insight for the future. I think it’s important to trust your stylist and I do with her implicitly. It’s a friendship I truly value and I hope she continues to do my hair for many more years to come.”
