The Mercury Music Prize is typically a male dominated affair, but last night's award show featured a great lineup of women, who looked as good as they sounded.

Woman of the moment Laura Marling is real ethereal beauty, and her très on-trend nude tone outfit was complemented by a bare, glowing face and baby blonde hair.

Fellow nominee Corinne Bailey Rae looked typically pretty with soft, diffused curls - the fluffy volume looks fantastic against that peachy paillette dress.

Sophie Ellis Bextor wasn't actually nominated for anything, but turned up looking lovely anyway. The pop princess has a gingery hue going on at the moment, which makes a nice change from her usual ebony locks. I love the soft beehive, with lots of looseness around the front.

Top prize winners on the night were lo-fi legends of the year, The xx. Clad head-to-toe in black, the humble trio were deserving winners of the £20,000 Mercury Prize. I love leading lady Romy Madley Croft's androgynous black wedge cut - I predict a flurry of indie girl copycats over the coming months...
