Aveda walk for water 2009
More than 100 people turned up to walk the five miles, the average distance that African women walk to collect water every day, along the River Thames to show their support for the Global Greengrants Fund which promotes clean water as a right for everybody.
London Mayor, Boris Johson, gave his support for the walk. "Clean water is something that we all take very much for granted. I would like to wish all those taking part the very best of luck," he said.
Participants from salons, sales and Aveda teams gathered at the London 'scoop' on the South Bank with a beautiful backdrop of Tower Bridge and the River Thames.
The event began with the all-important warm up routine by colourful, keep-fit guru Mr Motivator. Passers by even joined in with some of the exercises!
Plastic water bottles were not allowed on the walk and participants stuck to using their reusable Aveda/Sigg bottles to keep cool.
Money raised in the Walk for Water worldwide campaign will benefit eco charity Global Greengrants Fund which works by supporting small communities and projects so that villages can benefit directly from money raised.
Every year, Aveda supports and environmental charity with a large-scale fundraising activity.
This year, more than £72,000 has already been raised from the UK walks and the figure is steadily growing.
With increasing support for the Walk for Water campaign, Aveda hopes to beat the 2.8million raised for last year's global campaign. Visit the Just Give website to donate.
