Whether clients are stuck in a style rut or have a bad record of wrecking your results with a passive approach to products, here are the 10 colour commandments to help them - and you and your business - in 2015
by Rusk official ambassador, Katie Mulcahy.
1. Be brave and bold
Try offering new colour techniques which can bring in extra revenue for very little investment.
Pastel hues will be big again this year and can be applied using semi-permanent colour (such as RUSK Direct), giving clients the chance to change their tones regularly.
Ombre/dip dye techniques are still hugely popular and allow clients to try something new without a dramatic change.
2. Maintain you mane
Explain to clients the importance of investing in quality colour shampoo and conditioner. They trust your expertise, so recommend what's best for their hair and why. Try the Deepshine Colour Care range from RUSK to prolong the life of colour and enhance shine.
3. Get organised
Make 2015 the year that you ensure your colour knowledge and skills are the best they can be. Invest in some colour training for you (and/or your staff) and use those newly acquired skills to impress current clients and attract new ones.
4. Embrace and evolve
Don’t let clients get stuck in a colour rut. Help them evolve through the seasons. Whether it's brighter and lighter in the summer, or warmer and richer in the winter they will appreciate your advice and enjoy always looking fresh and on trend.
5. Treat time
Encourage clients to try in-salon conditioning treatments and a weekly deep nourishing treatment at home. This should be easy, especially if you explain this keeps colour looking vibrant as well as keeping hair looking healthy and glossy.
6. Graceful Grey
Advise clients who are
grey to embrace it by enhancing natural tones with pearlescent and mink tones, and wear with pride.
7. Gorgeously Glossy
For clients who need a hair pick me up or want to dazzle at a special occasion, recommend a nourishing gloss. Whether it's clear or to add tone, a demi gloss will make locks shine for sumptuous sexy hair.
8. Cut that colour
As you know, but not all clients are aware, it's imperative to maintain healthy hair when colouring. Keep regular trims to ensure ends are kept strong. Explain that no matter how great the hair colour, if hair is in bad condition this can affect the overall look.
9. Fashion focus
Make sure your clients know that you are bang up to date with the latest colour trends. Whether they want to wear the latest looks is up to them, but give them the confidence that you know what is happening in the world of fashion works wonders. Stay aware of what’s happening on the catwalks and understanding emerging trends by reading
magazines, following
Pinterest and using the internet for inspiration.
10. Use your expertise
Use your client’s trust to help them plan for the colour and style they really desire. We have the clients who are desperate to touch up those roots or want a quick fix, but sometimes this can undo all the hard work that you are putting onto their long-term colour. Help them resist the temptation and it will be worth waiting for.
