X factor style: week 5

Week five was the first week Cheryl Cole lost one of her contestants, but at least they looked good losing. Katie Waissel might be consistently in the bottom two at the moment, but how stylish is she?! I love this textured twist on 1930s curls - she looks fabulous.
Cher Lloyd loves a quiff, and whenever she goes back to her rapping and tracksuit combo, the quiff comes too. I prefer her with other styles, but it's still very her, and very cool.
Rebecca Ferguson didn't look quite as amazing as usual this week; I much prefer her with a retro updo or something more fashion-y - this feels like any other popstar's hair.
It was goodbye to Treyc Cohen this week, and from a hair point of view; about time! This stiff, voluminous look would be chic on Michelle Obama, but on a younger, supposedly edgy performer, it looks dated.
Cheryl told Aiden Grimshaw to lighten up this week, and not only did he smile; he also let down his immaculate quiff. I'm not a huge fan of the boy band look on Aiden (or the Meatloaf shirt), but he is very cute when he smiles...
Surprising to see Matt Cardle doing something different this week - well done that boy! That said, I don't think a curly, 2000-era 'fin' is particularly stylish, but at least he's experimenting. Finally.
Same old, same old with Paije Richardson again - love the flat top, but it would be nice to see something new. How about revisiting some other 80s styles? Mullet? Perm?
This week Mary Byrne had some criticism from the judges, and I'm afraid I'm not impressed either. Her updos are really aging at the moment, and while it's nice to see her looking glamorous, I think they could do something a bit more flattering with the Tesco checkout queen!
That said, I love Wagner - so who am I to judge?!
One Direction really nailed the all-American theme for the week. Without wanting to sound like Louis Walsh; they're young, they're fun, they look good - girls really do love them!
