The pop industry decamped to Madrid, Spain, this weekend for the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards, hosted by Eva Longoria. While the hostess proved herself to be a style chameleon with 10 glamorous costume changes, the award nominees proved to be more of a mixed bunch.Crazy colour emerged as a mini-trend, with Rihanna, Paramore's Hayley Williams, and Ke$ha all rocking neon bright hues.
Tik Tok singer Ke$ha took the look to her usual extreme, with neon makeup smeared all over her face, and hair. The painted-on colour actually reminded me of the white streaks at Alexander Wang's most recent show.
Rocker Hayley Williams has switched her trademark orange hair for a girlier pink. It's a cool punk look that she carries off, but I'm not sure about that 80s makeup.
Next to those two, Rihanna looked positively normal for once with her flame red locks, styled in a chic, retro beehive.
Host Eva Longoria got through ten outfits and ten hairstyles at the MTV Europe Music Awards, but my favourite was this quiffed updo from the red carpet. Sometimes Eva gets a bit WAG-ish with her styles, but this is chic, flattering, and not too fussy.Katy Perry made her first appearance since her wedding, and was joined by new husband Russell Brand. Marriage obviously hasn't changed her kitsch style - dressed in a sequined train ticket dress, Katy's hair was typically quirky too. The twisted, knotted ponytail is sophisticated but fun.
Thumbs down to both Taylor Momsen and Miley Cyrus, for once again getting carried away with the extensions. Both teen stars have committed crimes against hair; Taylor's are too long and straggly, as ever, while Miley is looking a bit blonde and Barbie-ish.
I'd love to see both of these two with their natural hair - it would be a real breath of fresh air!
