Women's average beauty spend reaches £50,000 before 40

Women's average beauty spend between the ages of 18 and 40 is a whopping £50,000, according to a new study. The research, by money saving website Promotionalcodes.org.uk, quizzed a focus group of women between the ages of 18 – 40 on the beauty products and treatments they use and how much they pay for them. On average, the women spent £2,153.90 each year on products and treatments, which means they will have spent a massive £47,385.80 on looking good before they hit 40. The costs included basic items such as shampoo and conditioner but also more expensive products such as hair oil and eye creams. It also found that women spent the most on treatments, racking up a bill of £1,102 per year on manicures, hair colouring, facials and waxing. The next most expensive outgoing was for make up, which set women back £356 a year or £6,052 up until they reached 40. The list only included items that women classed as 'essentials' and didn’t factor in special treatments such as a spray tan before a party or a pedicure before going away. Making sure their hair looked good cost £303.20 a year which was spent just in hair care and styling products. Looking after their face set them back £283.70 each year with £109 spent on body care. One woman who took part in the survey said: "I spend so much money on the likes of hair products and make up, but I rarely take the time to tot it all up because I just consider them essentials. Finding out how much I spend has shocked me, but I would buy the products regardless of the cost because I think it’s so important to make sure I look your best."
