Winning hairstyles from the glamour awards

Florence-Welch-Glamour.jpgFrom Florence Welch's statement new shade of red to Nicole Richie's volumised ponytail, last night's Glamour Woman of the Year Awards 2010 was a suitably stylish affair. Stars from the stage, screen and fashion world all dazzled on the red carpet for the event at Berkeley Square Gardens.

The night saw Cheryl Cole win Woman of the Year, with her X Factor protégé Alexandra Burke taking Newcomer of the Year and fellow judge Dannii Minogue landing TV Personality of the Year. Awards aside, here are our winning hairstyles of the night...

Diana-Vickers-Glamour.jpgDiana Vickers

X Factor star Diana Vickers was reunited with her mentor - and Glamour Woman of the Year 2010 - Cheryl Cole last night. While Cheryl's floppy look was met with an almost universal thumbs down, Diana kept things simple with an on-trend dolly bun.

Usually seen with flowing hippy chic lengths, Diana's stylish updo offered a youthful red carpet option. The base of the bun was wrapped with a thin braid - ticking the box for another summer trend! The necklace didn't particularly work with the dress or bun, but it's still a cool, age-appropriate overall look.

Gizzi-Erskine-Glamour.jpgGizzi Erskine

TV chef Gizzi Erskine has been labelled the new Nigella Lawson for her fondness for naughty-but-nice food. It's not just her cooking that we're comparing to Ms Lawson's though - Gizzi has retro glamour nailed, just like her predecessor.

For last night's awards, Gizzi opted for a classic vintage beehive, complete with sweeping fringe and must-have flicked eyeliner.

Nicole-Richie-Glamour.jpgNicole Richie

Guest of honour was Nicole Richie, who won Glamour Entrepreneur of the Year for her clothing and jewellery lines. Sticking with her trademark big, boho hair, Nicole was one of several stars who went for asymmetric hair styles.

This dramatic pony has plenty of body throughout, giving a retro feel to the look which was echoed through her 60s-inspired eye makeup.

Sam-Taylor-Wood-Glamour.jpgSam Taylor Wood

Artist Sam Taylor Wood won Glamour Filmmaker of the Year for her John Lennon biopic, Nowhere Boy, with her partner Aaron Johnson swiping Glamour Man of the Year for his role in the film.

Pregnant Sam opted for a dishevelled side plait, bang on trend for summer. Although it's a little on the skinny side, it works well with her textured hair to create an effortless look.

Zoe-Saldana-Glamour.jpgZoe Saldana

Avatar actress Zoe Saldana took home Glamour Film Actress of the Year for her role as blue-faced Princess Neytiri. The stunning starlet wore a Heidi-style braided updo for the event, featuring intricately woven plaits wrapped around her head.

Worn with a dramatic black Vionnet lace dress and killer YSL heels, Zoe looked a picture of elegance but with a cool, quirky fashionista feel to her look.

Florence-Welch-Glamour.jpgFlorence Welch

Flying the flag for redheads everywhere, Florence (and her Machine) were named Glamour Band of the Year 2010. Showing off a new, brighter shade of red and a blunter fringe, Florence looked simply stunning - even if she did choose to match her lipstick to her hair colour.

Dressed in her usual fashion conscious bodycon style, Flo ensured all eyes were on her with a head-to-toe statement look. We love it!
