Cinnamon cookie butter, brownie brunette and now brookie blonde – at this point, we could open a whole bakery with these different hair trends! A hybrid of cookie and blondie shades – think that golden glow you get from baked goods fresh out of the oven – brookie blonde is the latest trend to dominate social media. In reality, this colour isn’t anything ground-breaking, but clients seem to love a fun name these days, so why not jump on the hype? Here’s everything you need to know…
What is Brookie Blonde?
Laura Elliott, Head Stylist at Neäl & Wølf, discusses the colour in depth, explaining: “It’s a captivating blend of brown and blonde hues that creates a naturally sun-kissed look, exuding elegance with its rich, multidimensional tones. This colour features warm caramel shades, soft honey blonde highlights, and biscuit brunette tones. The seamless integration of these colours creates a dynamic mix of high and low hues, offering texture, softness, and radiant shine."
How Can You Utilise Colour Placement to Create a Gorgeous Brookie Blonde?
Discussing how to create a gorgeous Brookie Blonde, Tom Smith, evo international creative colour director, shares: “The dominant tone is a rich, golden caramel blonde; if your client’s natural colour is deeper, this can be achieved with a highlighting technique and a zone tone. If their natural base is fairer, you’ll need to add cleverly placed lowlights scattered throughout the body of the hair, avoiding the parting and hairline to add the necessary contrast and depth.”
Laura recommends creating a 3D effect to enhance the depth in this look. To do this, she says: “Build up the tones by placing the darkest colour either as the background or beneath the two lighter colours. This technique makes the golds and blondes pop."
In fact, careful colour placement can achieve more than just depth and dimension, with Louis Byrne for L’Oréal Professionnel explaining: “By being clever with your colour placement, you can really show off a haircut, or emphasise certain facial features.”
How to Protect the Hair’s Integrity
Ahead of any colour services, Louis notes that it’s always important to assess the condition of the hair. “Sometimes I’ll then use a pre-treatment, such as L’Oréal Professionnel’s Absolut Repair Molecular to build strength.” Meanwhile, as a part of her pre-colour process, Laura explains that she likes to perform a strand test to ensure even lift and check the hair’s elasticity. Following this, she says: “A chelating treatment is essential for all my blonding work, as it removes metals and minerals that can make hair look dull and lacklustre. This treatment keeps blondes brighter for longer, giving clients that salon-fresh feeling.”
