Taking a client from bright blonde to red can be a daunting task, things like choosing the correct tone, preserving condition and preventing colour fade are all things to take into account. We caught up with John Spanton, Technical Education Director at Trevor Sorbie, to get his top tips on how to achieve long lasting red tones. 'This colour looks amazing on Christina and compliments her skin tone; sexy, grown up and much more beautiful. To get the best durability on this sort of colour change from a bleached blonde, a proper diagnosis of the health of the hair before you begin and a ‘no shortcuts’ approach to the colour change is the only way to go. Work with the least chemically impactful products you can in order to minimise the negative effect on the hair. Use acid colourants and semi-permanents where possible. Looking after the hair is the key to success here so use treatments to build up the hair and keep it supple. Finding the right shade of red depends on the personality and the skin tone.
