Revelation 18:24 is the latest collection from Emma Göttwald, a talented apprentice at Sydney’s Royals Hair & Beauty. Presenting a dark, raw, warrior woman style, it's perfectly timed to coincide with the new Mad Max film.
The collection takes its cue from the Biblical passage of the same name, which states:
"…and let us take warning from the things which brought others to destruction, and let us set our affections on things above, when we consider the changeable nature of earthly things."
It presents a sequence of apocalyptic warrior women who are gritty and raw in their appearance, as opposed to pretty and romantic. It’s dark and cryptic, capturing the true essence of a femme fatale - perhaps at the end of time.
The hair reflects these female fighters and their changeable nature; texture alternates from being coarse and rough to sleek and strong, enhanced by definite lines, disconnections, shapes and beautiful, hidden intricacies. We see the re-emergence of the fringe; severe in it’s appearance but creating a statement of strength. Variations on braids, topknots and wet to dry techniques show diversity and wearability, and maintain individuality.
