Veganuary - why your salon should use vegan hair care products? This month is all things vegan with veganuary. It seems that consumers are not only changing their diets by swapping to plant based meals, but also to plant based hair care products. Veganism is becoming more popular than ever, with more salons and industry brands introducing vegan products to consumers. For those who don't know a vegan is a person who doesn't consume any dairy or animal-by product, and this also means they are conscious of what they're putting on their hair. By selling and using vegan and cruelty free products, your salon is helping save our environment and reducing our carbon footprint by not supporting the manufacturing of unsustainable products that are also cruelly testing on animals. If your salon or client is trying to get involved with veganuary, here is some advice from the industry's best  vegan and cruelty free brands.

R+Co

Pont Smith, R+Co UK collective lead and bebop salon owner said: "R+Co is currently at the forefront of leading the awareness and  importance of vegan and cruelty-free products. The R+Co brand and its founders believe that to deliver stand out performing products, we use do not need to have any animal extracts or animal by-products in the ingredients or in the manufacturing process.
We all need to be aware and conscious of the animal products we consume and need to reduce it, as it's really important for our environment and the sustainability of our resources.
I personally believe that using vegan products and being green/sustainable (using what we have in a way that can last for years to come) is something that every salon should include in their business model."
R+Co is not only cruelty-free, but also Leaping Bunny approved. This means that the brand, is certified as a brand that doesn't test their products on animals.

Thom Priano, R+Co's vegan co-founder and celebrity men's stylist said: “We want to send a message to both the hairdressing community and greater world that you can have healthy, beautiful hair without testing and harming animals.
As a company, R+Co has a platform to create awareness and to prove through masterful formulation, performance and kindness, that there is a better way. We want to be the leaders that steer our industry toward doing what’s right.”

IdHAIR

Lyndsey Ford, Idhair head of education UK said: "At IdHAIR taking care of the environment and having an environmentally friendly salon and vegan products are so important to us. Two of our ranges, the Elements Xclusive Care Range  and our Gloss colour range are both green and vegan ranges, allowing salons to offer a complete colour service for the ingredient conscious client. The client demand for these services are growing all the time, it’s one of the questions I get asked the most from new salons coming on board and who are interested in possibly bringing IdHAIR into their salon. There are so many benefits to using vegan hair products and if we all use vegan hair products it will really help the environment. Not only that, vegan hair products provide clients with healthier hair, as they are not full of chemicals and only use natural and organic ingredients. From repeated use of hair products with chemicals it can actually damage your hair, whereas organic and vegan products are good for your hair and will make it look and feel healthier and more beautiful. By using natural and vegan hair products, there is also less chance of clients having allergic reactions or skin irritation. as there is no chemicals in the products. Last and certainly not least, one of the most fantastic things about vegan hair products is that they are not tested on animals and are 100% cruelty free."

Moo Hair

Suzie Gillespie, owners and co-founder of Moo Hair said: "Consumers now want to make more eco conscious choices and with vegan products now becoming more popular, so it is important for salons to be more eco-friendly. The drive to go green is gaining momentum and salons could miss out on a big and growing group of consumers if they are not able to offer the right products.  We have also seen a huge rise in veganism and salons need to be able to cater to this market (Moo of course being a vegan range). Research shows that people are willing to pay extra for vegan, eco-friendly or sustainable products and this trend is only going to grow.  Now that we have moved into 2020 the environment and veganism needs to be on the top of every businesses agenda, salons need to get on board with this shift in purchasing and need to be able to offer their clients a vegan and ethical alternative to the big brands. If your salon wants to be more eco-savy, ensure there is a clear policy on reducing plastic waste and recycling in the salon, switch to low energy appliances and a green energy supplier and always be conscious of reducing packaging and plastic bags."
