VAMOS Tax Launches Specialist Service for Professional Hairdressers

VAMOS Tax Launches Specialist Service for Professional Hairdressers

Updated on 26th Oct 2026 by Josie Jackson

Founded on more than 20 years of hair industry experience, VAMOS Tax aims to make tax simpler for freelance hairdressers and independent salons

Created by Nick Higgins together with two additionally qualified and experienced colleagues, VAMOS Tax brings together professional expertise and a practical understanding of business. The practice is focused on the professional hairdressing industry, supporting freelance hairdressers, mobile hairdressers, chair renters, independent salon owners, hair educators and hair influencers across the UK.

What makes VAMOS Tax different is its founder’s experience of the industry it serves. Nick has more than 20 years’ senior experience within the professional hair industry, including more than seven years as Managing Director of ghd Hair UK & Ireland. During that time, he worked with thousands of salons and businesses across the UK and Ireland and met hair professionals through major industry shows, events and awards.

He subsequently spent more than six years as Managing Director and co-owner of Wonderful Brands, further developing his experience of running and growing a business within the professional hair sector.

VAMOS Tax brings qualified expertise and the reassurance of a formally licensed accountancy practice. The business is an AAT Licensed Accountant practice, committed to delivering professional, straightforward support within the scope of its approved services. By combining technical knowledge with a practical understanding of the professional hairdressing industry, VAMOS Tax aims to make tax and compliance simpler, more accessible and less time-consuming for the people it supports.

Tax Support Designed Around Hair Professionals

Hair professionals are busy; They want to concentrate on their clients, their creativity and growing their businesses. They do not want to spend their evenings worrying  about spreadsheets, tax returns and administration.

“We want to make things easy,” says Nick. “Our clients shouldn’t have to become tax experts. They should know what they need to do, what it will cost and when it needs to be done – and then they can get on with running their business and enjoying their life.”

VAMOS Tax has created a simple monthly fee structure, giving clients clarity over the cost of their tax support and avoiding the uncertainty of a large annual bill.

VAMOS Tax is also an approved Xero Partner and supports clients with setting up the accounting software to help them record their business income and expenditure effectively and keep their records organised. This forms part of the practice’s  straightforward approach to making tax administration easier for busy hair  professionals.

Helping Hair Professionals Navigate Making Tax Digital

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is a significant change for self-employed people, including many professional hairdressers. From April 2026, it applies to eligible sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000. The threshold is scheduled to reduce to qualifying income over £30,000 from April 2027 and over £20,000 from April 2028, bringing more self-employed people into the system.

These thresholds are based on qualifying income before expenses, rather than profit.

For freelance hairdressers and independent salon businesses, the changes mean keeping digital records and meeting new reporting requirements. VAMOS Tax aims to make that process as manageable as possible, helping clients keep their records in order, check their quarterly figures and meet the relevant HMRC deadlines.

More Than Tax Support Alone

“Our ambition is to build something that offers real value to the hairdressing industry,” says Nick. “Getting the tax and compliance side right is fundamental, but I also want  VAMOS to become a great source of support for our clients — connecting them with  useful information, relevant partnerships and opportunities that can help them and  their businesses move forward. We’ll build this over time, listening to our clients and  understanding what would make the biggest difference to them.”

By initially focusing exclusively on the professional hairdressing industry, VAMOS Tax aims to build the knowledge, practical understanding and trusted relationships needed to become a long-term resource for hair professionals.

"We want to build relationships with our clients, not simply complete a tax return once  a year,” adds Nick. “We want to understand the person and the business, make the  tax side straightforward and help them move forward with confidence.”
