Kobi Bokshish presents La Mer - his finalist shoot for 2015 Australian Hairdresser of the Year, inspired by life under the sea.
Speaking about his inspiration, Kobi said: "In the mythical world of mermaids, the structural beauty of coral and the ethereal dancing jelly fish, life under the sea is simplistic and calm, exhilarating and unpredictable.
"I became emerged in the beauty of creatures below the surface where I was sucked into the texture and shapes, the colours and movement taking me places I have never been. The raw essence of nature engrained in the sand contradicts the man-made concrete jungle our eyes are blinded by daily. The ocean has opened my mind and creativity for things I could not see above the surface. I like to believe I have ‘turned up something’ within this collection that pushes the common perception of exterior, the capacity of shape and definition of ‘editorial texture’ – bringing new meaning to the notion of beauty.
"Our perception of beauty has evolved but the imperative nature of foundation hairdressing remains the same. My approach to hair design has and always will be built on the philosophy of Vidal Sassoon – structural to the core. Here, like the life under the sea, I have taken an iconic canvas (Sassoon) and manipulated the shapes and texture for a row and fresh approach to artistry. And soon you'll see that the sea urchins and coral below the surfaceare personified in the textural design above the surface."
