Trend zoom: a global spectacular
Imagine a perfect party atmosphere with guests from all around the world. Throw in plenty of talent and creativity, then add to the mix a huge dose of nervous tension.
That's exactly what Valencia's Centre for Arts and Science played host to when Goldwell's Trend Zoom Color Challenge came to town.
After wowing judges in their home countries with their interpretation of Goldwell's Rockmantic and Newstalgia trends, talented colourists from all over the globe were there to hear if they were one of the three international winners.
Representing the UK were Camilla Ring of Webster Whiteman, London, in the Creative Colorist category; Carla Fearon of KZ Hair, Glasgow, in the Elumen Colorist category; and Andy Kyriacou, of Lexingtons, London, in the Partner Colorist category (picture below right).
Although there were no wins for Britain, all three UK finalists did themselves, their salons and their country proud.
The event began with a special colour show featuring three award-winning colourists including the UK's Mark Leeson, Australian Colour Technician of the Year Dieter Mersmann, and North American Hair Colour Award winner John Simpson.
All three demonstrated the versatility of Goldwell's colour products.
The evening also gave Goldwell the opportunity to introduce its 2009 collection - Futuretec, incorporating next year's trends, Virtualist and Ecopolitan:
Virtualist - inspired by virtual reality, combined with the mysticism of the Middle Ages. Colours are silvery grey, metallic and shimmering, while cuts are helmet-like, creating an armour for the head.
Ecopolitan - a softer, more organic look. Colours are rich and vibrant, but natural, stylish and cosmopolitan.
Following the two shows presenting the new trends, the winners were announced. They were Ken Hong from Singapore for Creative Colorist; Iona Ecard from Germany for Elumen Colorist; and Peter Wu from Taiwan for the Partner Colorist Award.
