Top Hairstyles at the BRIT Awards 2024

The BRIT Awards, sometimes simply referred to as The BRITs, are the biggest music award ceremony in the UK – so it's no surprise that the stars in attendance like to make an impact with their hair, makeup and outfits. Taking place on 2 March 2024, these are the standout hairstyles that left Tracey Ann Smith from French & Ivi in Derbyshire, Midlands Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards 2023, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, in awe – and her steps to help you recreate them in the salon.

Kylie Minogue

The nation's sweetheart from down under never fails to impress. She demonstrates how hair that’s beautifully coloured and simply styled can look timeless and classic. Her cute fringe and layers give this style a really youthful look. Get the look with a smooth blow out using a round brush and some salt spray for a little grit and shine. Use a straightening iron to increase shine but tuck those edges under so it appears to have a little movement. To frame the face, just tuck the fringe slightly under to give it a great shape.

Raye

Raye reminds me of a modern day Amy Winehouse. Her classic black dress and 60s-inspired hair and make-up looked incredible. I love the way her thick hair sits in this rolled French bob, which is dressed to perfection. To create this look, roll up the fringe using a small barrel brush and plenty of strong hold mousse. Follow this  same technique around the bob, using a barrel brush to get the tuck up. Finish with a strong hold hairspray such as ASP Mode Air Loader to keep it in place.

Charli XCX

Charli XCX had a whimsical feel to her look with this pretty Marni dress, which really softened her look. Her hair was slicked back and sexy with large set waves. To get the look, blow dry the hair with little volume using a volumising lotion, then part the hair in the centre. Apply wet gel to the hair with a tint brush and paint it down to the mid sections, creating an S bend on the scalp with a comb. You can either use a diffused dryer or a cloth to dry down the style to keep the root in place. Then curl the mid lengths and ends using a barrel tong,
blending the wet look sections with a wide tooth comb. Finally, tuck the hair behind the ear, spray, and set.

Maya Jama

Maya showed off her hourglass figure in a fabulous black fishtail gown. Her hair was simply blow dried to perfection, which was the best way to style a dress this sensational. Get the look using a medium round brush and a volume mousse, then blow dry the hair in sections and pin it with clips to allow it to set. Take the pins out and smooth the hair with a Mason Pearson brush to keep shine and bounce. Finish with a holding spray and a spritz of shine spray.

AJ Odudu

AJ looked incredible and showcased Afro texture at its best. I love this look. Simply tease the hair with an Afro comb to create the shape, then use a diffuser and a light cream (ASP Mode Dream Cream is perfect). Part the hair down the centre to gently push the shape in the direction required, then finish with a light shine spray.
