Toni & guy show off 50/50 collection at salon international 2013

For international super-brand Toni & Guy, 2013 has been an extra special year. Celebrating 50 years since its birth, the salon group has been in jubilant mood, holding a festival in Knebworth to share their joy with their hairdressers and launching the fantastic 50/50 collection, giving a modern update to some of its key heritage looks.
It was no surprise that there were queues to see the Toni & Guy team in action, and the atmosphere in the room was buzzing as the show kicked off. A video displayed Toni & Guy looks from the past 50 years, allowing a fascinating glimpse into how hair trends have developed and often returned over the last half century.
There were also a number of catwalk presentations and live demonstrations on stage, with the International Artistic Team showing off their talents, as well as the styling capabilities of the Label.M product range.

As regulars backstage at Fashion Week, the Toni & Guy were unsurprisingly influenced by catwalk references in producing modern updates of their previous collections. The team cited designers from Jean Paul Gaultier to Balenciaga as their inspirations, but these were amalgamated with heritage looks from the 1980s and 90s.
Jody Taylor spoke about the increasing importance of men's hairdressing, plus the return to traditional methods. "We're working with old-school barbering techniques now, but that can look really fresh on someone young with the right attitude. I think it's cool when a guy carries a comb in his pocket these days!" said Jody.
Colour-wise, there was plenty of blonde, pink and apricot, as well as root-stretching techniques which will keep cost-conscious clients happy.
As well as commercial looks, there was also an avant garde presentation, showing off the kind of breath-taking looks that Toni & Guy's Indira Schauwecker has become renowned for. Gravity-defying hair and incredible shapes topped the heads of otherworldly-looking models, providing an amazing finale to a great show.
