Toni & guy launch the alignment collection
Always a Salon International must-see, the Toni & Guy Salon Live show kick started with films of their work at London Fashion Week, the label.m campaign and the new collection, Alignment, before models came out with an array of textures, shapes and colours to a plethora of camera flashes.
Ten members of the artistic team demonstrated the latest cut and colour techniques, each with its own identity.
The Elson pushes the boundaries for curly hair, working with block graduation, taking the shape square and flatter. Inspiration was from Karen Elson, and the result was something curly clients will be screaming out for.
International education director Cos Sakkas shared his interpretation on the Belie, exposing or hiding the rawness of the neckline. Colour had a feeling of internal infusion. "Just because hair is short doesn't mean it can't be dip-dyed," said colourist Jane.
HJ's London Hairdresser of the Year 2011 finalist Richard Mannah worked on the Dakota, inspired by movie The Runaways, undercutting the sides and backcutting the back.
Technical creative director Jayson Gray talked about the colour. "She is bold, sultry and sexy. Everything about this look screams 'statement'," he said.
Jo O'Neill took her inspiration from the iridescent colours found in the centre of a pearl for soft, shimmering detail to bring a short haircut to life, while HJ's current Men's Hairdresser of the Year Jody Taylor presented the Tonic, a progressive take on the military crew cut.
Adding 70s street culture influences, he used a tight scissor-over-comb technique and rounded graduation. "I wanted to bring a feeling of aggressiveness meets style, with mod-influences thrown in," Jody explained of his short, textured cut.
"Clients don't buy technique they buy taste so you need to be adaptable. They all want suitability and that is the key to any style," explained compere Bill Watson.
Indira Schawecker and Pinar Necati presented a breath-taking avant-garde section, with twists, rolls, cornrows, angelic textures and height all working together to create a collection of awe-inspiring hair which was beautiful, elegant and breath-taking.
The team presented more than 40 amazing models which cemented their repuation as being one of the most creative organisations in the industry. In just over one they presented commercial colour, creative cuts and something to fire the imagination.
