The Perfect Salon Experience: A Salon Centred on Quality Time

Following the success of Laundry for Hair in Sheffield, comes a new London outpost that all clients just don’t want to leave, thanks to its focus on the notion of quality time. The Laundry London is the second outpost of the award-winning Laundry for Hair in Sheffield.

The concept, originally created by Mitch Wilson, is all about offering a haircut and a bit extra. Jen Ball and Kate Du-Plessi, the founders of the London branch were all about creating a space that their clients “just want to hang out in.” Jen explains: “Our other award-winning salon in Sheffield was the starting point for the inspiration for this salon, but we wanted to moved that concept on a few notches and again created a space that you just want to hang out in.”

With warm wooden floor, green walls and vintage-style leather chairs, Laundry London has got serious seventies groove – but without being kitsch. The ethos of Laundry has always been quality, detail and service. And that holy trinity is also reflected in the interior design. “We use both quality off-the-shelf and bespoke furniture, and we have a real focus on using reclaimed materials like shelving and units,” says Jen.

They also made the most of original features like the exposed brick wall. “I really believe that the interior reflect the clients who walk through our door. If I had to sum up our clients I would say they are relaxed and inclusive,” she adds. With that geometric patterned wooden floor, chic wooden units and a strong presence of green (which has to be 2023’s favourite interior shade), Laundry London is all about relaxation and creating a home from home experience. You would even be forgiven for thinking that it was a coffee shop or trendy restaurant from the exterior, which is painted a forest shade of green. Add a red sofa for waiting clients and sage green side boards and mint mirror edges and the feeling of being in someone’s stylish home is complete.

But it was a real labour of love to get the design off the ground. “The space itself was completely empty with a collapsed floor, it did have a power supply, but everything you see now we put in,” explains Jen. When choosing furniture the duo looked for two things – quality and beautiful design. “To put it simply, Takara Belmont furniture is simply the best. Our backwash features Takara Belmont, which sits wonderfully alongside our bespoke unit topped with terrazzo”. The monochrome terrazzo theme continues along the work units, which sit towards the rear of the shop.

Holding their own in the space, Takara Belmont Vintage Alt Series A1601S Styling Chair work seamlessly with the old-school seventies vibe. “Aside from our chairs and backwash, we would always have something made to suit the space and the desired look. Going bespoke really makes the space your own,” she adds. Jen sums it up perfectly when she says: “People leave Laundry happy.” Shiny, happy hair – and people – just what we like to hear.
