The importance of training for successful colourists
You never stop learning, whether you are a junior or a fully-fledged stylist, and with a plethora of hair colour courses available around the country, there is no excuse for not attending educational courses.
"Clients constantly want a new trend," says Michael Barnes, London. "The only way to be creative and inspirational yourself is to have been inspired by learning new techniques."
Lucie King, from A.T Tramp, Beverly Hills, agrees. "Whether it is a three-dimensional striking colour or the more organic, lived-in look which we are continuously seeing on the catwalks, there is a fun, easy method to create it - and the salon is the only place to get it."
With so many training opportunities available, it doesn't have to cost the earth.
"Training is vital for colourists as it ensures you are one step ahead of trends and techniques but it also allows you to work and learn from other experienced colourists in the industry providing you with valuable insights," says Carly Roberts from Marc Antoni, Reading, Berkshire. "Don't underestimate internal training, though, if a colourist attends a course outside the salon, encourage them to share their new skills with the rest of the group."
