The hairstyle stars of the oscars' red carpet

Hollywood sparkled on Oscars night as the A-list glammed up. But while some of la-la land’s superstars shone so bright, others will be wishing they’d visited a different hair stylist. Here’s what some of the stars of British hairdressing made of Hollywood’s red carpet looks...

Marian Cotillard

Marian-Coutillard.jpgOscar winner Marion Cotillard looked simply radiant. Her whole look was a beautiful, modern take on old-fashioned Hollywood glamour. Just as gorgeous but with a more relaxed feel, which I feel suits her chic yet laid-back French style perfectly. Marion’s creamy, chocolate colour is delicious and works so well with her skin tone. Mark Leeson, Mark Leeson Hair, Body and MindThis is a very glamorous look, and reflects old-Hollywood styling. It is a style that will never date and continues to look elegant and complementary to her gown and jewels. The curls can be created by either using large rollers or by curling with straighteners in an “S” shape. The colour is very warm and natural looking, with subtle highlights to define the texture of the hair.Mo Nabbach, M&M Hair AcademyThis is totally, classy glamour at its best. The side parting is so on-trend as is the beautiful warm brunette tone. It is a sexy, yet sophisticated look and is nostalgic of old-Hollywood, which again is a big trend for 2008.Beverly C, MBE

Heidi Klum

Heidi-Klum-Oscarsjpg.jpgSporting a high bun with eye-catching detail, Heidi’s sophisticated look exudes catwalk chic. A perfect balance of warm heather and beige blonde, Heidi’s hair colour is naturally blended for an elegant style. Graceful and beautiful, this hair up was well chosen to complement her red gown and shows off its high collared feature to perfection.Akin Konizi, hob salonsI love this look, it’s elegant and sophisticated. The downside is that it can be a bit ageing, however Heidi can more than carry it off. The look is achieved using padding (a bunring is ideal) and after attaching the bunring at the crown, all the hair (except a section at the front) is brushed up and over the padding. The front section is brushed back to cover the top of the padding then wrapped around the slightly conical shape.Michael Barnes, Michael Barnes HairdressingLove this. Heidi has opted for a 60’s retro look which has been beautifully executed. She has a high chignon, which looks very simple and works excellently. She has a pretty face and gets away with having her hair totally away from her face, but usually this look would be softened with a slight fringe. The golden tones in the hair look beautiful against a neutral base, and these different warm and cool blonde tones will be huge for the summer.Beverly C, MBE

Cameron Diaz

Cameron-Diaz-Oscars.jpgCameron always looks totally stunning. Perfectly natural and not too overworked, this low-slung ponytail complements her dress faultlessly. Using her natural texture to frame her face and a side parting to achieve this sultry sweeping style, the look achieved is delicate and soft in its simplicity. Back-combed through the crown, and then gathered and secured at the nape, this red carpet look is just flawless!Akin KoniziI also love this look. Simple and understated, it shows how easily a beautiful woman can look glamorous seemingly without trying. This is basically a ponytail. The crown has been backcombed for some height and the fringe and front have been left loose for softness. Michael BarnesCameron is a natural beauty who can get away with a natural, undone and simple look. The colour is really golden and softens the whole style due to the mixture of tones. The highlights really complement the base shade.Mo Nabbach

And those who didn’t get it quite so right…
Renee-Zellweger.smalljpg.jpgRenee Zellweger

Although this short cut shows off Renee’s gorgeous neckline and accentuates the beautiful shape of her dress, this style lacks red carpet pizzazz. Her naturally striking facial structure allows her the flexibility to pull off shorter locks, but this voluminous blow-dry tucked behind the ears leaves little to be desired. Akin Konizi
Jessica-Alba.smalljpg.jpgJessica Alba

Opting for a Grecian style, Jessica’s plait has the potential to shine. But with a slightly uneven parting, which looks as if it was meant to be centred, her hair lacks impact and doesn’t bring out the best in her style. She still looks a blossoming mother-to-be nonetheless. Akin Konizi
