The Met Gala is arguably the biggest fashion and beauty event of the year, with industry icons and a whole host of stars flocking to New York to attend the fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The official Costume Institute exhibition on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” but the dress code and general theme of the Met Gala is the “Garden of Time.” Below, Samantha Cusick, salon owner and co-founder of Stā Studios, shares her favourite looks from the night…
Sienna Miller
Of course, Sienna looked the epitome of boho chic. Sienna's signature undone hair had a bit more texture, whilst remaining perfectly glossy and healthy. Teamed with her expensive-looking blonde this look is super transferable to clients – the perfect summer hair inspo.
Gigi Hadid
Gigi’s newly cut bob was giving ‘old money’ glamour. This has been a huge trend on socials lately, and with many clients opting for the chop, this is the perfect image to show them if they’re looking for alternative styling options.
Kim Kardashian
Another year of the met and another year for blonde Kim, though I am relieved (as I am sure her natural hair is too) that she opted for a wig this year – remember when she went blonde in one sitting? The soft barely-there waves and fluffy texture create the perfect combination.
Naomi Campbell
I am obsessed with Naomi’s sleek side-parted long locks. Side partings have been making a comeback in spring and look set to continue into the summer.
Kaia Gerber
Hello Texan-inspired blow-dry. Kaia’s Met Gala hair was giving serious glamour, the voluminous side part and bouncy lengths a progression from the 90s blow-dry trend we’ve all been obsessed with. Get ready to reach for the round brushes.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph
Her fairy tale length and Rapunzel waves emphasised the vibrant copper perfectly. The copper hair trend is still thriving.
Tyla
Tyla’s wet look micro bob ticks all the trend boxes. This softer approach to wet-look hair makes it super wearable and translatable to clients who want to try the trend but don’t have the experience to go for the sleek, structured wet looks we’ve seen on catwalks.
Kendall Jenner
Kendal was one of many celebrities to reach for the super long extensions this year. Kendal's ‘sleeping beauty’ hair combining soft texture with a neat, twisted half-up serves as the perfect hair inspo for summer – and I predict this will also be popular as we enter wedding season.
Emily Ratajkowski
Emily opted for Y2K vibes that reminded me of a young Billie Piper. The sleek, sculpted style had all the hallmarks of perfect face-framing pieces and spiky ends. I predict this will continue to be a popular look for Gen Z clients this summer.
Zendaya
I couldn’t do a Met Gala round up and not mention the co-chair Zendaya. She had two incredible looks but the one I loved the most has to be the floral headpiece. I know we can joke and say ‘Florals for spring? Ground-breaking,’ but Zendaya definitely had a different take. Get ready to see floral hair accessories making a comeback this year – maybe not to Zendaya’s level, but this is a perfect trend for festival season.
