The pompadour quiff trend has recently been seen at London Fashion Week Men’s AW20 at the Charles Jeffrey Show, with extreme pompadour wigs being worn down the runway. While this avant garde look won’t be styled in salons, the wigs echo the men’s hair trend to follow throughout this year.
The 1960s and 1970s Pompadour

This hairstyle was famously worn by the music artist Elvis Presley and was seen as his trademark look throughout his career. The pompadour was also seen in the well-loved musical film Grease, and was famously worn by the actor John Travolta. Jim Shaw owner of Toni & Guy in Billericay, Essex, said: “In 1970s, the pompadour was all about extreme hold and volume, using products like gels to give the look a super slick and shiny appearance. However, as we move into 2020, this look will be less shiny appearance and will focus more on volume. This will give the hair a disconnected appearance by keeping the hair shorter at the sides compared to the length on the top.”The Modern Pompadour

Like the classic pompadour, the modern style keeps the hair on top of the head thick and styled upwards and backwards, then it takes a modern twist as the side and back of the hair is shaved very short. This modern style combines both the pompadour and the undercut hairstyle, creating an extremely edgy feel. This modern pompadour twist is has been worn by the celebrities Zac Efron, Justin Bieber and David Beckham.Tom Baxter a OSMO brand ambassador said, “To adapt the Pompadour hairstyle for 2020, I would add a skin taper to the side burns and nape of the neck to add more texture and create a softer look. Avoiding heavy products such as a pomade or a gel, I would use OSMO Fibre Sculpt or OSMO Power Powder to show off the definition”
