For those who eschew the traditional big Hollywood blow-dry, textured waves offer a similar alternative. Modern, catwalk-inspired and just that little bit cooler, this look brings to mind Kate Moss, Alexa Chung and all those other London lovelies that we dream of waking up looking like. Here are some of the stars that rocked the look on the red carpet at the Met Gala 2014.

Florence Welch oozes London cool with her tumbling, slightly tousled waves and choppy parted fringe. With that gorgeous red shade, it would be tempting to give Florence classic pre-Raphaelite curls - but these waves are a much cool alternative. With the amount of detail on her
Valentino Couture gown, I'd have possible been tempted to go for
a braided updo, but if anyone can carry off this more-is-more bohemian look, it's Florence.

No surprise at all to see Alexa rocking her trademark tousled texture on the red carpet. Following Kate Moss, Alexa is perhaps the woman we associate most with this trend and she always wears it well. If only we could all look quite so gorgeously effortless.

Elizabeth Olsen's dress might have been
slightly ice-dancer, but her textured ponytail oozes cool - and covers up that opaque body stocking slightly!

Gisele is another founder member of the 'I woke up like this' wavy bedhead look. Being a Brazilian supermodel, her take on the trend is slightly glossier, with a high-shine finish and smoothed-out waves.

Leighton Meester also opted for a glossier take on textured tressed, with shiny waves to showcase her ombre colour to perfection. With this
intricately beaded Emilio Pucci gown and its plunging neckline, I might have been tempted to go with a hair-style, but the romantic mood of the dress works with a soft down 'do too.

Proving that tousled waves aren't just for young starlets on the red carpet, the timeless Naomi Campbell opted for crinkly waves and a centre parting. There's a real Botticelli feel to these waves - angelic!
