"Dullness is synonymous with unhealthy hair, and usually goes with dryness," says trichologist Glenn Lyons . "Too much product can also dull hair, so a good way to banish this problem is to keep it very clean.

"Older hair does not shine as much as virgin hair because damage, whether it is from chemical processing or physical trauma like rough treatment, raises the hair cuticle," continues Glenn. 

"A good conditioner used after shampooing helps to flatten the cuticle, and the combination of clean hair and smoother hair increases reflection."
