The 2013 Superbowl wasn't just about Beyoncé and Destiny's Child; the event also saw performances from Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson in a night which seemed to celebrate African American women on top.
Jennifer Hudson was joined by the Sandy Hook children's choir for a moving interpretation of America the Beautiful, which left much of the audience - and many of the football players - in tears.
For her sombre appearance, Jennifer opted for a low side bun combined with a thick sweeping fringe.
The loose curls somehow strike just the right note for this performance, while also managing to balance with the high neckline of her top.

Alicia Keys performed the national anthem before kick off and also opted for a suitably restrained style for the occasion.
Her asymmetric crop was sleekly styled in a smooth, sweeping wave with just enough height to prevent this from falling into comb-over territory.
Again, this look works perfectly with her outfit and is a dignified choice for such a monumental occasion in her career.
